# Market order: short/long

A market order executes immediately at the best available price. It's the fastest way to open a position.

1. Tap Long or Short
2. Select Market as the order type
3. Set your position size
4. Adjust your leverage with the slider
5. [Set your take-profit and stop-loss](/general/perps/market-order-short-long.md#take-profit-stop-loss) (Recommended)
6. Confirm. Your position is live

There are two mandatory field there to open a position:

* Your margin in USDC
* Your leverage

{% hint style="info" %}

* Market orders fill instantly but can experience slippage on less liquid markets. For precise entries, use a limit order.
* The minimum position size (leverage x margin) must be $10.

#### Take profit / Stop loss

An optional field appears at the bottom of the form. By clicking “Add,” you can include take-profit and stop-loss orders to your position.

A take-profit or stop-loss order will automatically close your position when the underlying asset reaches a specific price.

{% hint style="info" %}
When opening a long position, your SL order cannot be set at a price lower than your estimated liquidation price. Similarly, when opening a short position, it cannot be set at a price higher than your estimated liquidation price.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
You can always edit your TP/SL after the position is open. You can learn more about it [there](/general/perps/edit-tp-sl.md).
